We came back to Glacier because of what we missed the first time. We'd been through in 2022 on a trip that went coast to coast and border to border, but we got there too early in the season to do much of anything, and it sat on the list afterward as the biggest what-if we had.
The second time we got the whole week. Everywhere you look in that park is something that belongs either in a nature documentary or an Ansel Adams book, and somewhere in there we decided it had taken the top spot from Big Bend, which is a tall order.
This one is from behind the lodge at Many Glacier, looking across Swiftcurrent Lake. The peaks catch a while before anything down at the water does, so for a few minutes you get the tops lit and the whole basin still holding onto the night. The glaciers that give the park its name are going, and that is not an abstraction once you have walked up to one.
